The importance of CV preparation

Your CV will likely be the first impression employers and recruiters have about you, so it is important that you get it right. We get it, it’s easy to double tap and submit across job listings, however stand out from other applicants, by preparing your CV. Here are a few tips to get you started.

  1. Simplicity - A simple format always works best, layout the sections and plan what you’re going to include in each one. Once complete, get somebody to have a look through it to ensure that it makes sense and reads well.

  2. Triple check - Spelling mistakes, incorrect dates or poor grammar are all highly unprofessional.

  3. Don’t be generic - Highlight the most important bits from your experience. Your CV needs to be industry specific, so take out irrelevant information.

  4. Don't leave gaps - Gaps in your career can appear suspicious, ensure you’ve accounted for your employment history.

  5. Sell yourself! Don’t be shy in shouting about your achievements, this is what will get you noticed.
